Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, the aeropuerto de Madrid at Barajas, connects with the city by Metro, EMT buses and official taxis. Hostal Mediterranea is about 70 minutes from the airport by car; for public transport, your next steps depend on the terminal and where you are heading.

  • Metro: Line 8 serves Airport T1-T2-T3 and Airport T4.
  • Airport Express bus: EMT Line 203 runs between the airport and Atocha railway station around the clock.
  • Taxi: Signed ranks are outside every terminal’s arrivals area; the fixed fare applies only to destinations inside the M-30 ring road.
  • Hotel reference: Hostal Mediterranea is about 70 minutes from the airport by car.

First, check which terminal you are at and choose a transport option that serves your onward destination. Aena identifies Airport T1-T2-T3 and Airport T4 as the Metro Line 8 stops; a free transit bus links T1, T2 and T4 if you need to move between them.

The free transit bus runs 24 hours, including public holidays. It comes every 5 minutes from 06:00 to 22:00 and every 20 minutes from 22:00 to 06:00.

T4S is connected to T4 by an automatic train, with a journey of about 5 minutes; its frequency ranges from 4 minutes at peak times to as much as 12 minutes at off-peak times.

If you are staying at a hotel with rooms in Madrid, decide whether to continue by public transport or take a taxi after checking your arrival terminal. Keep in mind that airport bus and Metro routes connect the airport with parts of Madrid, but the details here do not establish a complete public-transport route to the hostal.

Public transport toward the hotel area

Public transport toward the hotel area

Metro Line 8 runs between Nuevos Ministerios and Airport T4, stopping at Airport T1-T2-T3 and Airport T4. Its operating hours are 06:05 to 02:00 every day, including public holidays; the last departure is at 01:33 from each terminus.

For Valdecarros, the Metro route involves changing from Line 8 to Line 1. The CRTM network map shows Line 1 running between Pinar de Chamartín and Valdecarros.

If that station is part of your onward journey, how to use the Madrid Metro from Valdecarros can help you understand that leg. No exact Line 8 train interval is available here, so allow for the possibility of waiting.

Metro zone A single tickets cost €1.50–€2 depending on the number of stations. If you enter or leave Airport T1-T2-T3 or Airport T4 using a zone A single, a Metrobús 10-trip pass or a combined single ticket, you must also pay the €3 airport supplement.

Tickets that require the supplement must be loaded onto a Public Transport Card or Multi card, available at Metro station ticket desks and vending machines.

EMT offers three airport bus routes with different connections. Line 203, the Airport Express, runs 24 hours between the airport and Atocha railway station and costs €5 for any journey length.

Line 101 links Canillejas Intermodal Area with Barajas Airport; it runs daily, including public holidays, from 06:05 to 23:45 and costs €1.50. Line 200 connects Avenida de América and the airport, runs daily from 05:50 to 23:30, and also costs €1.50.

Taxi and car options

Taxi and car options

Official taxi ranks are outside the arrivals areas of all airport terminals. Madrid taxis are white with a red stripe and the Madrid City Council coat of arms on their doors.

Aena advises using the rank instead of accepting offers inside the terminal; check that the meter starts at the beginning of the ride and ask for a receipt if you need to make a complaint.

For a destination inside the M-30 ring road, Taxi Fare 4 is a €33 fixed fare, applicable at all hours every day of the year. No supplement or separate fixed amount for a pre-booked service may be added to that fare.

For trips from the airport terminals to destinations outside the M-30 but within 9 km, Taxi Fare 3 is the minimum airport fare: its service-start price is €22, and after 9 km—or the equivalent initial time—the meter continues at the applicable fare. The per-kilometre price is €1.40 and the hourly price is €27.00.

Choosing a route for your arrival time

Choosing a route for your arrival time

For a late arrival, the 24-hour Airport Express bus or a taxi rank provides an option beyond the Metro’s stated operating hours. If you prefer the Metro, Line 8 serves the airport until its listed closing time; check the final-departure detail before planning a late connection.

For daytime travel, compare the bus connection that best fits your destination with the Metro route and its airport supplement. Lines 101 and 200 have set operating windows, while Line 203 runs around the clock.

If you are heading toward Valdecarros, plan for the change from Line 8 to Line 1 rather than treating the airport Metro as a direct service. For a separate outing, Faunia is about 19 minutes by car from Hostal Mediterranea; how to plan a visit to Faunia Madrid covers its transport and tickets.

Service hours, fares and disruptions can change. Check the official site before you go, using Aena for airport information and the relevant transport operator for live service notices.
